Lots of companies offer their employees some type of bonus. It might be based on the number of parts produced, a percentage of sales, or some other internal measurement of success. People begin to rely on those bonuses as a part of their annual compensation. When enthusiasm for the job wanes, thoughts of those bonuses can be a very effective incentive.
It should be an encouragement to Christians to know that we are also going to receive an additional bonus for our work.
I keep this verse on the wall in my office to remind me that the things I do in my office have eternal consequences. God cares about our attitude toward our work.
Work with enthusiasm, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. Remember that the Lord will reward each one of us for the good we do, whether we are slaves or free. Ephesians 6:7-8 (NLT)
